Shedding excessive weight is often a challenging task. However, it becomes slightly less daunting when you have clear objectives and a never-back-down attitude. Today, we share the story of Kumar Abhinav, a 35-year-old Senior Data Scientist, who has transformed his life in a way that encourages anyone embarking on or battling along their fitness journey.

Kumar’s wake-up call came when he began to experience digestion issues, snoring, and a constant feeling of fatigue. He was diagnosed with a grade 2 fatty liver, urging him to seek professional intervention. Despite not being categorically ‘overweight’, as per his Body Mass Index (BMI), Kumar decided to lose weight hoping for relief. However, when his condition did not improve appreciably, he turned to health coach Shweta from Vibe in Mind, Body, Soul, marking the crucial turning point in his life journey.

As most fitness aficionados would relate, changing one’s lifestyle is not an easy task. However, Kumar knew it was necessary. His path to health and fitness began with an overhaul of his diet. He began savouring healthier food, reduced sugar, and eliminated processed and outside food from his meals. Adopting the habit of dining early and retiring early to bed, he brought a significant change in his routine.

His workout regime began with home-based exercises. Gradually, he included both home and gym workouts, ensuring a balanced mix of walking and dumbbell training. He was devoted to his routine, making a point to exercise three times a week and strictly scheduling rest days.

The breakthrough came not only on the physical level for Kumar but also mentally. He began regarding food not as a source of emotional comfort, but as a nourishment to his mind and body. His diet centred around home-cooked meals, fresh fruits, and vegetables. He set his eating pattern in accordance with the circadian rhythm, making sure he consumed his meals at appropriate times. Kumar adds, “I focused on nutrition. I ensured my diet was balanced and consisted of protein, fats, carbs, fibers, minerals, and vitamins.” By practicing mindful eating and maintaining a balanced diet, he observed considerable improvement in his wellness and vitality.

Every fitness journey has its hurdles, and Kumar’s was no exception. However, the change in his mental perspective had equipped him to tackle the challenges. He saw an improvement in his self-confidence, mental and physical strength, and importantly, his relationship with food. Kumar smiled saying, “This shift has enhanced my overall well-being.”

Throughout his journey, Kumar had the unwavering support of his family. His prime motivation was his eagerness to match the energy levels with his child while playing. He also credits a significant portion of his success to his wife, whom he lovingly refers to as his rock, saying he couldn’t have done it without her.

The cumulative effect of Kumar’s diligence and consistency was a promising transformation: he dropped from 85 kg to 70 kg. However, the transformation was not just physical, but he gained a completely new viewpoint on health. He advises, “The journey’s goal must be rock-solid. If you mean to lose a significant weight like I did, you must be ready to make sacrifices.” His journey is testament to the belief that with the right mindset, support, and proper guidance, anybody can bring positive changes to their life and fulfil their health goals.

Kumar’s mantra is straightforward yet compelling: “Be consistent, be active, eat healthily.” For countless others embarking on the journey to robust wellness, his story serves as a beacon of inspiration, reminding us that hard work, determination, and a correct approach can indeed fulfil our health goals.
